Architect Frank Gehry is Helping L.A. with its Los Angeles River Master Plan

Famous architect Frank Gehry has been working diligently to help with the redevelopment of the Los Angeles River. His ideas are focused on an overarching plan to create bridges, walkways, and other improvements that will revitalize the public’s use of the space between Long Beach and the San Fernando Valley. Although the details are being kept quiet, Mayor Eric Garcetti is hoping results will bring glory to the location.

Gehry is working without pay to create a “master plan” that is similar to the design of New York’s Central Park. This artist may hold the key to a turning point in the struggle to reenergize the river and its banks. Unfortunately, certain activists are not very impressed. Concerns have been raised about the lack of public input and the large expense it would bring to taxpayers. In response, Barbara Romeo, developing mayor for city services, explained an outreach process would be included to solicit thoughts from Los Angeles residents.
Many people are pleased with Gehry’s involvement. Individuals in favor of his work are confident his abilities will introduce a unified design that rolls through various cities along 51 miles. This project is one of many being performed on major waterways around the country. Recently, the San Antonio River Walk was redeveloped and now attracts millions of tourists. Hopefully, this project will have the same effect. Even though many issues need to be resolved, including environmental concerns, Frank Gehry may be the man to implement necessary changes that will unify the location and attract new visitors.
