On the beach in El Porto, Manhattan Beach, there’s a new landmark called the Pathway to the Sea. This concrete pathway was created by 98-year-old Manhattan Beach resident Evelyn Frey so that local disabled, wheel-chair bound, or elderly people with canes could walk farther to the ocean itself without the pitfalls of the sand dunes preventing them from enjoying their natural surroundings.
The new walkway is 70 feet long and seven feet wide and ends in a cul de sac. The path extends from the existing bike path on 42nd Street. The path goes about halfway across the beach toward the ocean, about 150 feet from the high tide line. Now, we finally have a handicap-friendly pathway for everyone to enjoy the gorgeous El Porto beach. Just look at that gorgeous sand and surf!
